Last year I made a bold move when I quit my full-time job after 8 years. I mentioned I had some big plans in the works. I’m thrilled to say I’m finally ready to share the exciting news!

After I wrote my book, I got a lot of questions about real estate and mortgages. I wanted to help. My sister is a successful real estate agent. I was more than happy to refer my loyal readers her way since I knew they’d be in good hands. However, when it came to mortgages, I didn’t know anyone too well.

I wanted my readers to get the honest and unbiased mortgage advice that they deserved, so I referred them to mortgage brokers I knew of. I referred dozens of my readers to mortgage brokers, but for one reason or another, it was always the same story: the mortgage brokers failed to respond in a timely manner or weren’t able to help. And these were clients earning a decent wage with a sizable down payment and decent credit. These should have been slam dunk mortgage applications.

When a good friend of mine called me up one day and mentioned she had just bought a condo and needed help with the mortgage financing, I referred her to a mortgage broker, but once again when the mortgage broker wasn’t able to help, it was the final straw.

I work hard to be a trusted source for Canadians for real estate and mortgages. But by referring my readers to mortgage brokers that weren’t giving them the attention that they deserved, I was hurting my reputation, not helping it. I knew these mortgage brokers had the tools to help. They were just choosing not to use them.

That’s when a lightbulb went off in my head. I enjoy writing and speaking about mortgages and I want to help Canadians with their mortgages, so why don’t I take the next natural step in my career and become a mortgage broker myself? Right then and there I knew I had found my true calling in life and registered for the mortgage broker course.

I was determined to become a mortgage broker sooner rather than later, so when I was travelling on my flights to book events in B.C., I studied for the mortgage broker exam. 4 short weeks after I registered for the course, I wrote the exam and passed with flying colours to officially become a licensed as a mortgage broker. Hooray!

Why Should I Work with a Mortgage Broker instead of the Big Banks?

Great question, I’m glad you asked. When I decided I wanted to help Canadians with their mortgages, I considered working for the banks, but I wanted to stay true to myself. That’s why I decided to be an independent mortgage broker.

It’s no coincidence that I recommend using a mortgage broker when shopping for a mortgage in my book. Working with a mortgage broker offers several key benefits over the big banks.

When you work with an independent mortgage broker like me, you get greater choice. As a mortgage broker, I have relationships with 60+ lenders, including the big banks, credit unions and private lenders. I help you save time and money by looking at the mortgages that best suit your financial situation.

Through a mortgage broker, you can often get a rate lower than you’d get if you went directly to a bank. In fact, some lenders offer lower rates exclusively to mortgage brokers.

Here’s the best part – most of the time my services are completely free! You’ll get honest, unbiased mortgage advice at no cost. You have absolutely nothing to lose by working with me!

I can shop around among lenders without negatively affecting your credit score. Since I only have to request your credit report once, your credit score is protected. This is different than applying directly at the banks where your credit report is pulled each time hurting your credit score.

I work on a schedule that suits you. I work beyond the 9-to-5, so called banker’s hours. I’m available evenings and weekends. Book a free no-obligation 15 minutes mortgage consultation with me right now.

What makes you Different from Other Mortgage Brokers?

If you’re anything like me, you don’t enjoy being sold on something. I’m the same way. Unlike other mortgage brokers, I don’t have a background in sales, but what I do have is 10+ years’ experience in the financial industry. I take a very client-centric approach. I’m all about doing what’s right for my clients. (I already have my mortgage paid off, so I’m under no pressure to sell.)

When we work together, you’ll work with me one-on-one, not my assistant. I’ll keep you updated throughout the process. I’ll give you the time and attention that you deserve by responding to your phone calls, emails and text messages in a timely manner.

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a big supporter of financial literacy. That’s why I’ve created the Burn Your Mortgage Facebook Group, an open forum for asking your mortgage and real estate questions and sharing your mortgage-burning success stories.

When you’re a client of mine, instead of selling you on mortgages, I educate you on mortgages. Whether you’re a first-time homebuyer or a seasoned real estate investor, I move at the pace that’s right for you and speak in a language that you can understand.

When you work with me, you’re in complete control. After our initial free mortgage consultation, once you’re ready to move forward, I’ll provide you with 2-3 lenders that best suit your mortgage financing needs, so you can make an informed decision and the decision that’s right for you. It’s that easy!
